Opening Prayer: Almighty God, You are my only King. Teach me to be obedient in service and devotion to You, that I will please you with all that I am. Amen
Read: Luke 23:35-43
Reflect: What does this interaction with the criminal being crucified with Jesus teach us about his kingdom? Why do you think so many people insulted Jesus during the crucifixion? What is Jesus’ attitude on the cross? How does Jesus’ response to those who mocked him give us hope as his followers?
Prayer: for the church, for others, for myself.
Hymn: “Come, Thou Almighty King”
Come Thou Almighty King,
Help us Thy name to sing.
Help us to praise.
Father all-glorious,
O’er all victorious,
Come and reign over us,
Ancient of Days.
Come, Thou Incarnate Word,
Gird on Thy mighty sword.
Our prayer attend.
Come, and Thy people bless,
And give Thy word success.
Spirit of holiness,
On us descend.
Come, Holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour.
Though, who almighty art,
Now rule in ev’ry heart
And ne’er from us depart,
Spirit of pow’r.
To Thee, great One in Three,
Eternal praises be
Hence evermore.
Thy sov’reign majesty
May we in glory see,
And to eternity
Love and adore.
Closing Prayer: Loving God, do not hide your face from us or we will be lost. Speak to our longing spirits with your sustaining Spirit. Show us through the scriptures how we are to live, for we lift our attentive souls to you. Instruct us in the way of your will, and lead us as only your Spirit can lead. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
