Opening Prayer: Almighty God, open Your Word to me today as I read, and open my heart as I seek to understand and obey all that I hear, that I might be guided by You and You alone. Amen.
Read: 1 Timothy 5
Reflect: These instructions are aimed at Timothy who is a young man. How do they apply to you at your current stage in life? Are there principles that apply, or direct commands? How are sins and good deeds obvious, as Paul says in vv. 24-25? What are the instructions in this passage that are most pressing to you?
Prayer: for the church, for others, for myself.
Hymn: “Just As I Am”
Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou biddest me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am, tho’ tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, with-out,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am-Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve.
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Just as I am! Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down.
Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!
Closing Prayer: Preserve my life according to your word, preserve my life in your righteousness. (Psalm 119:37, 40)
