Opening Prayer: Almighty God, Set me free from all evil passions, and heal my heart of all inordinate affections; that, being inwardly cured and thoroughly cleansed, I may be made fit to love, courageous to suffer, steady to persevere. Amen.

Read: Luke 13:22-30

Reflect: Why do you think Jesus encouraged his disciples to enter through the narrow door? What do you think it means that many will seek to enter and will not be able? How does the teaching about the first being last apply to the rest of the teaching in this passage? How do you have confidence that you are entering through the narrow door?

Prayer: for the church, for others, for myself.

Hymn: “The Church’s One Foundation”
The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ, her Lord.
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth;
Her charter of salvation:
One Lord, one faith, one birth.
One holy name she blesses;
Partakes one holy food;
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

Yet she on earth hath union
With God, the Three in One,
And mystic, sweet communion
With those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
On high may dwell with Thee.

Closing Prayer: Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
