Opening Prayer: Almighty God, please make me faithful to You alone, so I can be as useful to Your Kingdom as possible in this world. Amen.
Read: Luke 9:57-62
Reflect: What is the response in this passage to the call of Jesus? How is this response different from the response in Matthew 4:18-22? What is the outcome in this passage? In what ways do people turn back from service to the Lord? How can we remain faithful in our service?
Prayer: for the church, for others, for myself.
Hymn: “A Charge to Keep I Have”
A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify;
A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill;
O my it all my powers engage
To do my Master’s will!
Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live;
And O Thy servant, Lord, prepare
A strict account to give!
Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely,
Assured if I my trust betray
I shall forever die.
Closing Prayer: Lord, I am no longer my own, but Yours. Put me to what You will, rank me with whom You will. Let me be employed by You or laid aside for You, exalted for You or brought low by You. Let me have all things, let me have nothing, I freely and heartily yield all things to Your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You are mine and I am Yours. So be it, Amen. (A prayer of John Wesley)
