Opening Prayer: Almighty God, You help are an ever present help in trouble. I need You guiding my steps in the good times and the difficult, remind me of Your presence in my life today. Amen.

Read: Exodus 17:1-7
Reflect: Does it surprise you that the people of Israel complained that they did not have water? Do you think they lacked faith, or did they have faith in God to act if they complained? How do we complain to God even after he has given us many gifts?

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself

Hymn: “Nearer, Still Nearer”
Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior-so precious Thou art!
Fold me, O fold me close to Thy breast.
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest;
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest.

Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring,
Naught as an offering to Jesus, my King-
Only my sinful, now contrite heart.
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart;
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart;

Nearer, still nearer, Lord, to be Thine!
Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign,
All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride.
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified;
Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified.

Nearer, still nearer while life shall last,
Till safe in glory my anchor is cast;
Through endless ages ever to be
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee;
Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee.

Closing Prayer: “Love the Lord your God…walk in all his ways…obey his commands…hold fast to him…serve him with all your heart and all your soul” (Joshua 22:5)
