Opening Prayer: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open and all desires known and from you no secrets are hidden, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify Your holy Name. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Read: Philippians 3:7-17

Reflect: Paul discusses the rigors of Christian life in this passage. What elements of discipleship do you see from Paul’s instruction in this passage? Which elements do you find easy? Which elements are difficult?

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself

Hymn: “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go”
O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee.
I give Thee back my life I woe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O Light that followst all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to Thee.
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me though pain,
I cannot close my heart to Thee.
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.

O cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee.
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

Closing Prayer: Almighty Father, I have come into Your presence today to grow as a disciple of Jesus, as I go through the rest of my day, help me to live a life of worship and continue to draw me closer to Yourself. Amen.

Read: Colossians 3:1-17

Reflect: What aspects of Paul’s instruction in this passage could be considered acts of worship? Did you list more than just the singing? Why or why not? How could the elements other than simply singing be acts of worship?

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself

Friday, September 12

Opening Prayer: Almighty God, come into my life and continue the process of change that will make me into the person You created me to be. Amen.

Read: Acts 2:42-47

Reflect: Next week I will be using this passage as the theme passage for my sermon again, and I will be highlighting our core values of Worship, and Discipleship.

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself

Hymn: “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”
Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne
We pour our ardent prayer;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts and our cares.

We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, I have encountered You through Your Word today. Help me to live in the truth of Your Word as I seek to serve You this day. Amen.

Thursday, September 11

Reflect: What are the specific instructions of Jesus to his disciples? How do you think the church is doing at fulfilling all the commands of Jesus in the Great Commission? What more could individuals in the church do to fulfill the commission?

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself

Wednesday, September 10

Opening Prayer: Almighty God, come into my life and continue the process of change that will make me into the person You created me to be. Amen.

Read: Galatians 6:1-10

Reflect: How do Paul’s words encourage the Galatians on toward deeper Christian community? What do you think of when you consider doing good to all people? Why do you think Paul says to be good “especially to those who belong to the family of believer”?

Prayer: for the church, for others, and for myself
